Christine Hayes

Christine Hayes, the Robert F. and Patricia R. Weis Professor of Religious Studies in Classical Judaica at Yale University, is one of the world’s leading scholars of Rabbinic Judaism. She is the author of two widely acclaimed monographs, Between the Babylonian and Palestinian Talmuds (1997) and Gentile Impurities and Jewish Identities: Intermarriage and Conversion from the Bible to the Talmud (2002), as well as two important popular books, The Emergence of Judaism: Classical Traditions in Contemporary Perspectives (2010) and Introduction to the Bible (2012). In her Goldberg Lecture, Professor Hayes will explore ancient Judaism’s radically diverse conceptions of human perfection.
