The Program in Jewish Culture & Society is delighted to welcome Liat Maggid Alon as an Israel Institute Visiting scholar for the 2019-2020 academic year. Maggid Alon (Ph.D., Ben Gurion University of the Negev) is a historian of the modern Middle East with expertise in women, gender, and family, especially the Jewish community of Egypt. During the 2019-2020 academic year, she will be teaching courses on Israeli film and television (JS/CWL/SAME 212) and Middle Eastern History (HIST 337). Liat will also be presenting workshops and lectures on campus and in Chicago during the Fall semester. Please visit the PJCS calendar for additional information and stay tuned for announcements of more events.

For now, we are thrilled and honored to be hosting another Israel Institute Visiting professor—as we did last year, with Pnina Motzafi Haller. Our partnership with the Israel Institute has allowed us to significantly enhance and expand our teaching and engagement with Israel Studies. More specifically, the expertise of Dr. Motzafi Haller and Dr. Maggid Alon focuses on issues of gender and diversity in Israel and help us to delve further into the complexities of modern Israeli culture and society.

You can view Professor Alon's CV here.
