Claire Baytas is a PhD student in Comparative and World Literature. She also holds a Graduate Minor in Cinema Studies and Certificate in Holocaust, Genocide, and Memory Studies. She works in migration, memory, and genocide studies in the contexts of 20th and 21st century literature and film in French, Turkish, and English. Her current research looks at how the memories of late Ottoman and early Turkish state cultural homogenization and ethnic cleansing policies are incorporated into French and Turkish textual and visual narratives about relations between the French and Turkish states and their marginalized populations in the late 20th/early 21st centuries.
